Microsoft Windows eHome Division
John Canning is a member of Microsoft's Windows eHome Division,
a group within Microsoft whose goal is to develop new technologies
that enable consumers to enjoy personalized entertainment,
communications and information experiences in ways that enrich
and simplify consumer's home environment. Canning currently
leads external evangelism for Applications and Services for
eHome. As technical evangelist, Canning works external third
parties in the areas of media and data distribution, DRM,
content, whole home control and services. John also manages
a team that drives the 3rd party developer program, manages
technical support and training for the field.
Prior
to joining the Windows eHome Division, Canning served as third-party
product manager for Microsoft's TV Platforms Group. In that
position he worked with companies to develop and manage compelling
new network services for cable operators and to help them
increase operational efficiencies and customer service.
Before
he came to Microsoft in 1997, Canning held various marketing
and engineering positions with Scientific-Atlanta, Inc, where
he participated in product development and implementation
of cable modem systems as applications architect and systems
engineer.
Canning
earned a master's degree in information design and technology
and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, both from
the Georgia Institute of Technology. His expertise ranges
from world wide communication and media issues to broadcast
and broadband technologies and services.
